Withholding Nothing
When we fall in love with a spouse, a child or any loved one, we withhold nothing from them. We give them all of our love and everything we have to show how much we care. We are filled with joy and we want them to be filled with joy too. It’s the same with the Father. Imagine. He has an unbelievable love for us that cannot be understood. He wants only the best for us. He withholds nothing from us and provides everything we need and more. He proved it when He gave Jesus, His Son, so that we could be free from sin. If we just have faith and withhold nothing from Him.
Do you have anything you’re withholding today; something that is holding back your faith? When I asked myself that question, I rather indignantly said, “Of course not!” There was no way I wanted to admit that I could withhold anything from the Lord. You might be feeling that way too. Truth is, we all have some area of our faith where we may not be giving our all; not on purpose necessarily. Time and stuff get in our way and the enemy is only too happy to provide us with things to fill our minds and our days.
To withhold nothing from Jesus means you must passionately follow Him and His commands, putting Him first. Your faith must be your life. It means your soul is on fire and yearns for Him. Your focus is on serving Him while serving His purpose for you. What does withholding nothing look like? David tells us in Psalm 84:
“How lovely is Your dwelling place, O Lord Almighty! My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.”
Four words tell us how: yearns, faints, cry out. Is your soul crying out for the Lord? Is it yearning for Him to fill all those empty and hurting places? When you seek Him, does your heart and your body faint for Him? Think about the depth David speaks of and how He withholds nothing from the Lord.
“Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may have her young--a place near your altar, O Lord Almighty, my King and my God. Blessed are those who dwell in your house; they are ever praising You.”
Here David tells us that withholding nothing leads to praising the Holy One for we can come into His house, His Presence lifting up His name.
“Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked. For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does He withhold from those whose walk is blameless. O Lord Almighty, blessed is the man who trusts in You.”
Now David tells us how God withholds nothing from us. He gives us shield and protection, favor and honor, everything good as long as we walk with Him. We will be blessed if we trust in Him. David does not withhold His praise, his heart, his body or soul from God. He would rather sit in the lowliest place in God’s house than share life with those who do not honor God.
Be lifted by David’s song! Our God wants to pour out His all on us and for us. Pour out your all on Him. Withhold nothing, praising His name, and watch Him bless you abundantly. There’s so much hope in withholding nothing.
Prayer
Lord,
My soul is crying out for You. It is yearning for You to fill all the empty and hurting places of my heart. My heart and my body faint for You. Just as the deer pants for the water, so my soul pants after You. Lord, I empty myself of everything that is not of You and desire to be filled to overflowing by Your presence and essence. Amen!
