Waiting Here for You
Waiting is a challenge, especially in our culture. We don’t have patience to wait and we can get a bit of an attitude if we have to. It’s time we take a pause and realize that there is actually beauty and blessings in waiting. In fact, it’s ten times easier to wait than to get all exercised and bothered, and still have to wait.
Many things are worth the wait, and greater blessings often come in the wait. King Saul learned this the hard way when he refused to wait. He had Jonathan attack the Philistine outpost, causing the Philistines to gather to attack. The Israelites hid and were afraid. Samuel, the prophet, told Saul to wait for his return as the Lord commanded, but after seven days, Saul got impatient because his men started to scatter. So he offered up a burnt offering even though he should have waited.
What’s ironic is Samuel returned right after Saul had finished the offering. Unfortunately for Saul, not only did he get reprimanded by Samuel, but he lost out on God’s blessing. His impatience cost him his kingship and an established kingdom for all time. The Lord appointed someone else to be king. Ouch!
Have you ever taken matters into your hands because you didn’t want to wait? Have you lost a blessing because you didn’t have patience to wait on the Lord? It’s time to be still and to sit in the peace of the Lord. Although our patience has worn thin dealing with life’s ups and downs, there are blessings in the wait. Just because we can’t see them, doesn’t mean they aren’t there.
This is the time to pray for patience to wait on the Lord. Our desire should be for His Presence because in that Presence is the fullness of glory and love. Out of that love come answers to our prayers and direction for our paths. We don’t have all the answers and we don’t see the future. So it’s time we start to act like we don’t. It’s time to be fully dependent on Jesus.
Only Jesus sees ahead and can save. Only the Holy Spirit knows God’s will for us and leads us there. Our power and victory over life’s troubles only come through the time we spend with the Lord. While you wait, have patience. Use that time to lift up your praises to His name. Trust that His plan is better than yours and He wants to pour out blessings beyond what you can dream.
That’s what the disciples did in their grief. They obeyed Jesus by going to Galilee and waiting for Him after His resurrection. Their blessing? Jesus came and breathed His Spirit into them. So, wait for Jesus with your heart and your arms open wide. Don’t worry about how long you have to wait. His goodness runs after you. You don’t need burnt offerings, just obedience, faith and patience. Through that, He will be glorified.
“But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me.”
Micah 7:7

Prayer
Lord,
Your Word says that hot tempers cause arguments, but patience brings peace. I want to be Your vessel of peace. Whoever is patient has great understanding, but one who is quick-tempered displays folly. I long for great understanding and Your peace gives me the patience to repel folly.
Your Word says that the end of a matter is better than its beginning, and patience is better than pride. You are my Alpha and my Omega; I choose patience and humble myself before You. Love is patient and kind; it is not jealous or conceited or proud; it is not arrogant. I will strive for this kind of love to take over my life. I will rejoice in hope, I will be patient in tribulation, I will be constant in prayer. Amen!
