Hallelujah!
There’s a great program on television that just returned called 911 Lone Star. The new episode is about a disaster that hits Austin. A dormant volcano erupts and causes great damage and injury all over the town. Unfortunately, a paramedic trying to save a young man dies from flying debris from the volcano. The fire house is devastated. And what song is played as they deal with their grief? Hallelujah!
Hallelujah means, “Praise the Lord’. It is the act of rejoicing and praising God. Although we think of rejoicing when things are going well, we can raise a Hallelujah under any circumstance whether in pain, joy, suffering or celebration. It is one of the most incredible weapons we have to shame the enemy and make him flee.
In the 911 story, despite their grief and rough times, it’s that Hallelujah that surrounds them. You see, something happens when we praise the Lord, even in the midst of trouble. It changes the atmosphere and creates space for the Presence of God. That Hallelujah sends a message that although we may be shaken, we’re not out. We still have breath to praise His holy name.
Remember Daniel’s story when he and the other wise men were about to be put to death because no one could interpret the king’s dream? Under duress, the mystery was revealed to Daniel in a vision. Even though he didn’t know whether the king would accept the interpretation, the first thing Daniel did was praise the Lord. He raised a Hallelujah, even facing death.
We can learn from both the 911 story and Daniel’s story. Our God is worthy to be praised no matter our situation. Why? Because He is in the middle of all of our situations, challenges, missteps, and good times. It is our hope in HIm that brings us through, if we stay focused on Him.
The pandemic hasn't loosened its grip. Hallelujah, we’ve made it another day and Jesus loves us. Political and social division has left us in confusion. Hallelujah, Jesus gives us hope for the future and lights our path. We’re facing economic and financial issues. Praise God, He is the Provider every day. We face illnesses, including the virus. Hallelujah, we have a Healer and a Way Maker. There are trials. Hallelujah, He is the Miracle Worker walking us through them.
Get the picture? We can say Hallelujah through it all because our hope is not in the world or in man. Our hope is in Jesus. He never fails and He keeps His promises. Why should we worry or hold our heads down? Rise up and shout Hallelujah in the middle of your circumstance. No one can take that Hallelujah away. We are God’s children, bought with a price, loved and highly favored. Yes, volcanoes erupt in our lives, but through the power of Jesus, we thrive. Hallelujah!
“The Lord lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be my God, the Rock, my Savior!...Therefore I will praise You, Lord, among the nations; I will sing the praises of Your name.” 2 Samuel 22:47, 50
Prayer
Lord,
I will extol You at all times; Your praise will always be on my lips. I will glory in You; let the afflicted hear and rejoice. I will raise a hallelujah. My tongue will proclaim Your righteousness, Your praises all day long. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits, who forgives all my iniquity, who heals all my diseases, who redeems my life from the pit, who crowns me with steadfast love and mercy,
who satisfies me with good so that my youth is renewed like the eagle’s. Lord, You work righteousness and justice for all who are oppressed. Hallelujah! Amen!
