Living This Moment
What are you up to at this moment? What kind of day are you having? My hope is that you’ve had some space to pull away and take a deep breath. Busy moms and dads managing households, jobs, and helping the kids with virtual school. Searching people, looking for new jobs, new opportunities to make ends meet. Lonely people, hoping for a call or a word of encouragement. Anxious people, praying for unity and love with our neighbors. We are all living this moment.
We could get lost in worry, disappointment and confusion. We could focus on what we don’t have and what we need, but let’s really talk about this moment. No matter our circumstances, we are living. Praise God! Because we are living, there must be a purpose for us and there must be something the Father needs us to do. Otherwise, He would have other plans for us.
There’s an old spiritual song about living this moment. It is such a reminder of how important gratitude and thanksgiving are in the midst of our troubles. It speaks to the unconditional love Jesus lavishes on us, riches falling from heaven, those riches are laced with freedom, victory, hope, protection, security, joy and encouragement.
These riches shouldn’t be drowned out by the world and its demands. These riches should keep us moving forward and living in this moment knowing that our strength and courage to keep going comes from Jesus. The two greatest riches He pours over us are grace and mercy. They fill the moments and remind us of who we are and who we belong to. In this moment, shake off whatever keeps you from experiencing all of His riches, and just soak in these words of hope.
“Your grace and mercy brought me through. I’m living this moment because of You. I want to thank You and praise You too. Your grace and mercy brought me through.
Thank You for saving a sinner like me, to tell the world salvation is free. There were times when I just didn't do right, but You watched over me all day and night.
Justice demanded that I should die, but grace and mercy said, ‘Oh no, oh no, oh no. We’ve already paid the price.’
I was once blind, but thank God I can see. It was because grace and mercy came along and rescued me.
Your grace and mercy brought me through. I’m living this moment because of You. I want to thank You and praise You too. Your grace and mercy brought me through.” (Your Grace and Mercy, The Mississippi Mass Choir)
“Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Hebrews 4:16
Prayer
Lord,
I will praise You with all my heart; I will glorify Your name forever. For great is Your love toward me; You have delivered me from the depths, from the realm of the dead. Teach me Your way, Lord, that I may rely on Your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear Your name. Because of Your great love I am not consumed, for Your compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for Him.” Your mercy and grace are made ready for me each and every day. Therefore, I will praise Your name when I wake up in the morning; praise You throughout the day and praise You as I dream of Your goodness. Amen!
