Praise Party
Yes, it’s that time again. You are invited to a praise party today. The time: right now. The dress: whatever you have on. Please bring your worship, your best praise dance moves and a bag of shouts of Hallelujah! BYOM (Bring Your Own Music).
It’s time for us to send the enemy packing. Just because we have trials and situations to deal with doesn’t mean that we should let our guard down and let him win. When our praises go up, he runs. He can’t be in the same place where the Lord is being lifted up and praises are on the lips of His people.
Did you know there is another advantage to having a praise party? When we stop to praise Jesus, we get to be free. We are free of the cares of this world and we get rid of our human pride and desire to be so independent. We get to let our hair down and with all the passion we want to express, sing and dance our praise to the Lord.
We talked recently about the way David danced when the Ark of the Covenant was brought into Jerusalem. He was a king, dignified and noble, but when he saw the Ark, he danced right out of his clothes. We can learn so much from David about praise and worship, and how our party should go.
First, David gave all of himself to praise, holding back nothing. He didn’t care what his title was or how noble he should be. He was celebrating His Lord. Second, he praised with abandon. He didn’t care who heard him or saw him. He was utterly lost in His worship of the Lord. He was all that mattered. David wasn’t controlled or swayed by his emotions or any cultural norms. And last, he grew in worship by praising the Lord freely and with all his might.
We can also learn from Jesus. When His seventy-two disciples returned from their mission. they couldn’t wait to tell Jesus what they had done in His name. He was so excited at their report, He began to praise the Lord. Luke 10:21 says, “At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, ‘I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.’”
So now we’re ready. Give Jesus everything you’ve got in your praise. Praise Him no matter who’s around or what they think. Praise Him with all your might and get lost in your worship of Him. Be full of joy through the Holy Spirit, just like Jesus was when He lifted up His praise to the Father. Think of what He did for us through the cross and His resurrection, and how much He loves us. Praise should just explode from your lips. Have a great praise party! I know I will!
“The Lord lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be my God, the Rock, my Savior!” 2 Samuel 22:47
Prayer
Jesus,
I will sing to You all my life; I will sing praise to You as long as I live. May my meditation be pleasing You, as I rejoice in You. I praise You because Your joy is my strength. Let my soul rejoice as I sing to You a new song. I sing to You, I praise Your name; I proclaim Your salvation day after day. I will declare Your glory among the nations, Your marvelous deeds among all peoples. Amen!
