The God Who Sees Me
Sometimes we get impatient and take matters into our own hands. We want things done in our time frame, which is often quicker than what the Lord planned. That’s when we give the Lord a little help to get us where we want to go. Inevitably, this never really works and if anything, it prolongs His plan and complicates everything. Then we wonder where God is and why He doesn't step into the mess we’ve made and fix it. Anyone had that experience?
This happened to Sarah, Abraham’s wife who wanted a child so badly. Even though she was told that would happen, she got tired of waiting and took matters into her own hands. She told Abraham to sleep with her Eygptian servant, Hagar, so Sarah could have a child. He did, and then the drama started. When Hagar got pregnant, Sarah mistreated her because she was jealous. It was so bad that Hagar ran away into the desert.
An angel of the Lord found Hagar and comforted her, telling her to return to her mistress. She was given a prophecy about her son, even his name. This was the first encounter Hagar had with the Israelites’ God and she called Him “the God who sees me.” (Genesis 16:13) Hagar returned, and fourteen years later, Sarah had a son. You guessed it: the drama started all over again between the two women. Sarah convinced Abraham to kick Hagar and her son out into the desert. Again, God rescued her and gave her hope and direction.
You may not be in Hagar’s situation, but you may have trials of your own. You may be tempted to fix your problem yourself because you don’t have the patience or the hope to wait. Don’t be like Sarah and take matters into your own hands. You are guaranteed to get drama and a complicated mess. There is Someone who sees you, who knows what you are going through. All He wants you to do is trust Him, especially when your back is completely against the wall.
Hagar took matters into her own hands when she ran out into the desert. But the Lord sent an angel to find her, comfort her and give her hope. Today, He sends Jesus to find us when we run away or get lost; to comfort us when we’re in pain; and to give us hope when we don’t know how to handle our problems. He is the Fixer. He is the God who sees us.
You may need rent or mortgage money, a job, food to eat, medical attention or the like and you can’t see where it will come from. Your money in your bank account may be nearly depleted. You may have lost a loved one and you aren’t sure how to make it. Jesus sees you. He has not forsaken you. You don’t have to run away to the desert. Run to Him fully trusting and fully expecting that He will show you the way.
Have faith and be confident that Jesus sees you, the real you. He can and He will bring you through or out of your situation. That faith and trust is so important, especially in these times.
These are not just cliches or hollow words. If you believe He can do it, all things are possible.
“Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.” Mark 10:27
(A father of a possessed boy speaking to Jesus) “But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us. “‘If you can’? said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.” Mark 9:22-23
Prayer
Lord,
When I am afraid, I put my trust in You. In You, whose word I praise—in You I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me? I have trusted in Your steadfast love; my heart shall rejoice in Your salvation. Those who know Your name trust in You, for You, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek You. I will be still and wait for You. I will sit still and know that You are God. Those who know Your name trust in You, for You, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek You. Thank You Jesus. Thank You. Amen!
