F.R.O.G.
This devotion is dedicated to my sister in Christ, Yvonne, who is a F.R.O.G. Thank you for bringing FROG to my attention. I now share it with all my friends here.
When my friend told me she was a FROG, I chuckled, primarily because it’s a name of endearment and fun that is tossed around in our family. I immediately thought of the amphibian that lives in ponds and croaks. Her meaning, however, was far from the frogs in the pond. It is an acronym for Fully Relying On God—F.R.O.G. This is her mantra, especially as she strives for what God has planned for her.
What does fully relying on God look like? You only need to look at Daniel. Imagine you and other young men in your city being captured and taken away from family, language and culture to a new idolatrous city. You are made to learn a new language and literature that is counter to your faith, and you’re even stripped of your name. What would you have done?
Daniel was strong, courageous and faithful. He decided to maintain his faith and follow the Lord’s teachings no matter what. He was willing to put everything on the line, including his own life. Rather than defile himself with the palace food, he asked permission to follow the diet of his own culture. God showed him favor for being steadfast in his faith, and his request was granted.
When the king declared everyone must worship an idol he had created or face death, Daniel and his friends refused. They knew they were putting their very lives on the line, but they trusted God and God alone. They trusted He would deliver them, either into His hands or by some miracle, save them. God showed them favor when they were tossed into the fiery furnace and He saved them. Here’s what the king said,
“Praise be to the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who has sent his angel and rescued His servants! They trusted in HIm and defied the king’s command and were willing to give up their lives rather than serve or worship any god except their own God.” (Daniel 3:28)
Daniel fully relied on God. He was a F.R.O.G. His story tells us that when you are fully dependent on God’s grace, no situation can or will limit God’s mercy, goodness and power. When we stop trusting in our own abilities and trust in His; when we remove barriers and obstacles in our lives that keep Him out; and when we let Him mold and shape everything, He delivers, He saves, He heals, He redeems, He restores.
Confuse the enemy, just like Daniel did and fully rely on God. Become a person who proudly proclaims “I am F.R.O.G. Don’t mess with me!” Let the Lord Almighty be your strength.
“I am confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” Psalm 27:13-14
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding: in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6
Prayer
Lord,
I fully rely on Your Word in my life; it is living and active, a light unto my feet and a light unto my path. I trust in You to guide me down valleys, over peaks, past the shadows, and through the storms. Who else but You who faithfully started a good work in me, will be able to complete it in me? Just as You have never left my side, I will keep my eyes on You. I will completely depend on You. I hold on to You. You not only sustain me, but You fill me to overflowing. I trust in You with all my heart and will not lean in my own understanding. I will acknowledge You and I am confident You will make my paths straight. AMEN!
