Take Your Vitamins

We need to stay healthy, especially under stress. Over the past year, we’ve experienced just that as we’ve adjusted to the impact of COVID-19. Many of us take extra care to bolster our immune systems to improve our physical health. Taking vitamins like B, C, D, and zinc each day help. Our mental and spiritual health, however, are important too.

Maintaining a healthy attitude and mental state increases our ability to cope with the stress and anxiety that’s part of life. Keeping our spiritual health on point is most important. The steps we take can improve both, but you have to take your vitamins for the soul.

Imagine your life is an airplane. You have what you need to fly: a co-pilot, good mechanics, a radar system, the works. Are your hands gripping the wheel or do you feel pretty relaxed? Do you feel the gauges on the dashboard are working or are they spinning out of control? If you’re gripping the wheel, your mental and spiritual state needs healing.

First, know the illness. To take the right steps toward better health, you have to know what you’re fighting. It’s the enemy—the irritant who’s causing the trouble in your spirit. He focuses on the mind to plant seeds of destruction that eventually corrupt our spiritual health. He has no other way into our hearts. Knowing that helps design the right health strategy.

To combat the turmoil he creates, we need strong spiritual, fortified and sanctified vitamins that we can only obtain through a focus on the Lord. We need vitamin S, vitamin W and vitamin P. These vitamins must be taken in combination to get the full effects and to block the enemy.

“Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.” (Proverbs 3:7-8) That’s vitamin S—Seek the Lord first. Don’t think you can heal yourself on your own. Take this vitamin in large doses every day forever.

“My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to one’s whole body.” (Proverbs 4:20-22) That’s vitamin W—the Word. The enemy can’t flourish in the presence of the Word. Take this vitamin every day too, and make sure you have enough to  remain in your system at all times. It defeats wrong thoughts, brings hope and keeps you strong.

“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light.” (Matthew 6:22) We are the light that shines in the darkness of the world,so we have to keep our eyes on Jesus at all times. The Holy Spirit should guide us every day. To do this, we need  vitamin P—Prayer. This liquid vitamin flows continuously and releases the power of the Holy Spirit in every situation. Take this vitamin often throughout the day. You can’t take too much.

So every day, take large doses of Seek the Lord, the Word, and Prayer. Rest assured, you’ll be mentally and spiritually healthy and strong. You’ll face life’s trials head on, and the benefits are fantastic: peace, joy, security, and hope for the future. Now, go take your vitamins!

Prayer

Lord,

You love those who love You, and those who seek You find You. If I seek You I will find You; I will find You when I seek You with all my heart. You taught that if I ask it will be given to me; seek and I will find; knock and the door will be opened to me. Your Word is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of my heart. Your Word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. Search me, Lord, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. Help me pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, help me also to be alert and always keep on praying for all the Your people. Amen!
