Bring On The Rain

It’s Spring and old man Winter is being pushed aside slowly but surely. The earth is preparing for a new season of planting and growth. Isn’t it amazing how our outlook changes with the seasons too? We begin to feel light hearted and we excitedly look forward to getting outside and enjoying the outdoors after being cooped up for so long. There’s only one thing:  we need the spring—rain.

While rain brings on the beauty of nature, we need to “Ask the Lord for rain in the springtime; it is the Lord who sends the thunderstorms. He gives showers of rain to all people, and plants of the field to everyone.” (Zechariah 10:1). What rain does the Lord shower down on us aside from that for the crops? The most important rain He showers down is the rain of the Holy Spirit.

Without the Holy Spirit’s rain, we cannot grow or know the right path to take. The Lord wants us to grow in strength and boldness to be His disciples. He wants us to bloom as beautiful images of who He designed us to be.

We can all stand some of that Holy Spirit rain right about now. We have been closed up inside through this pandemic, sometimes afraid, sometimes alone, sometimes depressed, sometimes feeling overwhelmed. Although the pandemic isn’t over, we have hope, friends. Our hope is in the rain that the Holy Spirit will pour out on us.

Run outside and look up. His clouds are forming overhead and He’s preparing to unleash His power and authority and strength over you. Feel the wind of change blowing. That’s His Presence surrounding you and giving you that touch you so need. Listen, for the rain is coming. Smell the first aroma of His Spirit just before it comes?

Stand still and wait for the outpouring of His rain. Once it starts, don’t run inside. Let it drench you. Feel the rain seeping right into your soul. The Spirit is building you up, healing you, comforting you, encouraging you, loving you. This is the Holy Spirit rain poured out of heaven to refresh, restore, and give you power.

What is so wonderful about the Holy Spirit rain is that you can have it every day as often as you need or want it. The Holy Spirit is always with you, waiting to be asked to come. Every day you need to call upon the Spirit to guide your day, protect your path and guard your heart. Jesus told us that He left the Spirit as a gift, a friend and a helper. When you get up tomorrow morning, ask the Holy Spirit to bring on the rain. You will be so glad you did!

“May He be like rain falling on a mown field, like showers watering the earth.” Psalm 72:6

“For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants. They will spring up like grass in the meadow, like poplar trees by flowing streams. Some will say, ‘I belong to the Lord’; others will call themselves by the name of Jacob; still others will write on their hand, ‘The Lord’s,’ and will take the name Israel.” Isaiah 44:3

Prayer

Holy Spirit,

Let it rain! Bring on the rain. Open the flood gates of heaven and let it rain! Amen!
