Light of the World
Time to get our praise on and we need a praise break. Jesus is surrounding us and He’s gotten us through another week once again. So let’s lift Him up and give Him shouts of Hallelujah and Amen! You know why? Because we’ve been walking in His light each day, every hour and every minute. It may not feel like it at times, but it’s true. Jesus has brought light in the darkness, hope for our trials, and love for the lonely and forsaken. His light shines and brings such joy and peace. That’s something to praise Him for.
What does light mean? The dictionary says it’s something that makes vision possible or affords illumination. In other words, light opens things up to be seen. The Bible defines light as just that—Jesus, whose light brings salvation, righteousness, goodness, truth and life. It’s a revelation of God’s love in Jesus Christ. For us walking in the light means growing in holiness and faith, knowing God, understanding the truth and living in righteousness.
Think about when the lights go off during a power outage and you scramble for the candles and the flashlights. After the candles are lit and the flashlights come on, you’re so relieved. That surge of hope comes because you’re in the light. Jesus is just like that. He is the light of the world shining brightly, calling us to His flame of love. We are drawn to it.
Have you ever met people who seem to brighten up a room the minute they walk in? That’s what Jesus is calling us to be, just like He is. He told us to be the light in the midst of a dark world. Your light can shine and bring such joy and peace because you know Him and you represent Him. Because of our salvation, He expects us to. There are so many who need to feel the comfort and protection only His light brings.
So let’s praise God and raise that Hallelujah because we know the Light and because we can be a light for Him. Sing and shout His name. Bring Him the glory and let your light shine.
“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12
“You are the light of the world--like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” Matthew 5:14-16
“At one time you were in the dark. But now you are in the light because of what the Lord has done. Live like children of the Light.” Ephesians 5:8
Prayer
Lord,
I praise You for the gift of Your light. It reveals to me the salvation, righteousness, goodness, truth and life that You have blessed me with. Just as I once freely received Your light, I pray that You use me to help to freely spread that light to others. Here I am Lord, send me! Amen!
