Waterfalls of Joy
Waterfalls are so fascinating. Not only are they beautiful, but to hear the roar of the water as it rushes over the rocks is amazing. One of the most visited waterfalls in the world is Niagara Falls that sits between Canada and New York. If you’ve never been there, put it on your bucket list for the future. There are actually three together and they are just gorgeous. Every time I go there and watch the water flow over so powerfully, it brings me such joy.
Joy means blissful or happy. Joy usually comes with the feeling of satisfaction and peace. It also can come with laughter and a sense of everything being right with the world. Some of us are suffering from a joy deficit because of the pandemic or the stresses of life. So many of us are feeling the sadness of not being able to spend the holidays with our families and friends. This on top of all the other impacts of the virus can pull us down, even into depression.
But praise God joy is a choice! Yes, it is a choice. We can choose to allow our feelings of sadness to bring us down and keep us in the cesspool of doubt and negativity. Or we can choose to have a joyful heart and focus on all the good things the Lord has done for us. Especially now, during Thanksgiving and Christmas to come, our thoughts should be on the immeasurable love and grace Jesus showers on us.
The love of Jesus is like a waterfall of joy pouring over the rocks of hardships and trials, right into our hearts. If you listen closely, you can hear the sounds of exuberance found in His waterfall. All we have to do is decide to receive His love and joy, and then grab hold to it and dance for joy. Yes, it is possible to dance for joy in the midst of our problems. Every time we trade sorrow for joy, we are dancing on the enemy’s head. Our joy is a weapon against anything he throws at us.
So purposefully choose to have joy this week and the weeks to come. Every morning when you get up and every night before you go to sleep, think joyful thoughts. Take back your joy and push away any darkness. Whether we have little or much, Jesus is our Savior and He has good plans for us to prosper. And no matter your situation, you can bring joy too to someone. Sharing your joy with others will bring you joy too. So let the waterfall of joy from Jesus flow from you to someone and back again to you. His waterfalls of joy are healing and uplifting.
“But let all who take refuge in You be glad; let them sing for joy. Spread Your protection over them, that those who love Your name may rejoice in You.” Psalm 5:11-12
“Deep calls to deep in the roar of Your waterfalls; all Your waves and breakers have swept over me. By day the Lord directs His love, at night His song is with me--a prayer to the God of my life.” Psalm 42:7-8
“You turned my wailing into dancing; You removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, that my heart may sing Your praises and not be silent. Lord, my God, I will praise you forever.” Psalm 30:11-12
Prayer
Lord,
This is the day that You have made. I will not grieve, for Your joy is my strength. You make known to me the path of life; You will fill me with joy in Your presence, with eternal pleasures at Your right hand. I delight in knowing that Your anger lasts only a moment, but Your favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning! You are with me, the Mighty Warrior who saves! You take great delight in me; in Your love You will no longer rebuke me, but will rejoice over me with singing. Hallelujah! I delight greatly in You; my soul rejoices in You. For You have clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of Your righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. When Your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart’s delight, for I bear Your name, LORD God Almighty! My lips will shout for joy when I sing praise to You— I whom You have delivered. I will rejoice in You Lord always. I will say it again: I Will Rejoice! I will not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present my requests to You. And Your peace, which transcends all understanding, will guard my heart and my mind. Every morning and and every night, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—I will think about such things. AMEN!
