Worthy
Praise and worship were the first actions taken when Jesus was born. Imagine how the Israelites felt. They had waited for hundreds of years. It took fourteen generations from Abraham to the birth of the Messiah. They waited for Immanuel, “God with us.”
This tiny baby would save His people from sin, a heavy burden placed on the shoulders of a child. The night Jesus was born, the stars were shining so brightly and the glory of the Lord was shining around the shepherds in the field. An angel announced that the Messiah was born and a great host lifted their voices in the highest of praise. Worthy!
There was such joy and excitement. After the shepherds found Jesus, they raced to tell everyone. They were so overcome that they came back to the manger “glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.” (Luke 2:20). Worthy! Blessed be His name.
When Jesus was eight days old, His parents took Him to the Temple to present Him to the Lord. Simeon was there and he had been told by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before his eyes saw the Messiah. What did Simeon do when he saw Him? He took Him in his arms and praised God. Worthy!
The prophet Anna was there too at the Temple, where she had been worshipping, fasting and praying since her husband died. When she approached the parents and saw Jesus, “she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem.” (Luke 2:38). Worthy!
Later, Magi came from the east following His star which led them right to Him. Did they come to give Him gifts? Yes, but that wasn’t the main reason. Then why did they come? To worship Him. To pour out their love and their praise for the newborn King. Worthy!
The birth of Jesus was the beginning of the greatest story ever told about a child who grew into a man who brought salvation, forgiveness and eternal life to the lost. At Christmas, we have the opportunity to celebrate His birth just like the angels, the shepherds, Simeon, Anna and the Magi. Their worship was profound and deep. They were in awe that the Lord loved them so much, He sent His Son to save the world. Worthy!
Christmas is a time when we are reminded that we have hope, the hope of Jesus now and for the future. Through Him, we will get through the pandemic and any other trials of life. We are children of the King who loves us so much that He willingly came to earth, to sacrifice His life, to give us eternal life. We should be filled with joy, shouting from the rooftops, dancing in the streets, singing Him love songs, and bowing at His feet. He is worthy of that and more.
Be encouraged! Let your praises ring out for He is so worthy. Your joy and peace are in your praise.
“You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by Your will they were created and have their being.” Revelation 4:11
“They all fell down on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, saying: ‘Amen! Praise and glory and wisdom and thanks and honor and power and strength be to our God for ever and ever. Amen!’” Revelation:11-12
Prayer
Lord,
In You, I put my trust. I trust in You; do not let me be put to shame, nor let my enemies triumph over me. No one who hopes in You will ever be put to shame. Show me Your ways, Lord, teach me Your paths. Guide me in Your truth and teach me, for You are God my Savior, and my hope is in You all day long. I trust in Your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in Your salvation. I will sing Your praise, for You have been good to me. Amen!
