Oh, His Majesty
What is the most breathtaking experience you’ve had that made you just marvel at the wonders of the Lord? If you haven’t stopped to marvel at creation lately, I have a perfect opportunity for you. It happens on December 21st.
An awesome event is about to take place in the heavens that hasn’t happened in over 800 years, not like this. Jupiter and Saturn will come together in the night’s sky forming what appears to be a single bright star above the horizon. They call this the “Great Conjunction.” This is the closest the two planets will come since 1623 and will be visible around the world. Some have even said the merging of these planets will appear like the Christmas Star, the one that appeared when Jesus was born.
So find a place far away from any light pollution and look southwest shortly after sunset. If you look now and up to the 21st, you will see the two planets coming closer and closer together. Although they will be hundreds of millions of miles apart, to our eyes they will blend together. How the Lord must love us! He paints so many beautiful pictures in the skies to remind us of His majesty.
This isn’t the only conjunction we know of. A conjunction is the action or instance when two or more events or things occur at the same point in time or space. Think about the time when John the Baptist baptized Jesus. There was a conjunction! Jesus was baptized and at the same time, God revealed that Jesus was His Son. Another conjunction may be when repentance and forgiveness come together to create salvation. Oh, the majesty of Jesus.
Perhaps the greatest conjunction happened when Jesus was born and a bright and shining star appeared in the heavens and stayed there for a while. Can you imagine that conjunction? All of these things reflect the awesome majesty of the Lord. He is the Creator Extraordinaire. No one can do or replicate what He can. Just think. Every creation was carefully developed and spoken into existence by the One who had you in mind while He was creating.
He did it for us. For that reason, it should be so easy to celebrate His glory and majesty, even in the midst of our trials and the conditions of this world. Every time we look up at the stars and the heavens, we should whisper a “Thank You” and “I Love You” to the King of Kings. He is the hope of the world. He is our hope. There is nothing too hard or too tough for Him. So look for the “Great Conjunction” in a few days. Let your hearts marvel at our Creator and whisper a special prayer of love and appreciation for who He is in your life and who He is overall.
“Star of wonder, star of light. Star with royal beauty bright. Westward leading, still proceeding. Guide us to Thy perfect light. God of wonder, God of light. God is with us here tonight. Holy Savior in this manger. Come to set the world to right.”
“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.” Revelation 22:16
Prayer
Praise the Lord, my soul. Lord my God, You are very great; You are clothed with splendor and majesty. You wrap Yourself in light as with a garment; You stretch out the heavens like a tent and lay the beams of Your upper chambers on their waters. You make the clouds Your chariot and ride on the wings of the wind. You make winds Your messengers, flames of fire Your servants. You made the moon to mark the seasons, and the sun knows when to go down. May Your glory endure forever; may the You rejoice in Your works—You who looks at the earth, and it trembles, who touches the mountains, and they smoke. I will sing to the You all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. May my meditation be pleasing to You, as I rejoice in You. Praise the Lord, my soul. Amen!
